Intro to Reduction Linoprint Workshop

A reduction linocut is a printmaking technique where a single block is used to create a multi-colour print. Each layer of colour is added by carving away more of the same block, when the final layer is printed, the block has essentially been destroyed. This creates a series of prints that cannot be reprinted. 

This class is a follow up to my Introduction to Linocut workshops and is suitable for beginners and those wanting to build upon their lino printing experience.

In this class, you will learn how to create a simple three-colour reduction linoprint. We will go through the steps of how to transfer your image onto the block, plan out your carving and colour layers, how to make a registration jig, and the printing of your reduction block. I will also go through the tools and how to use them as in my Intro to Lino workshops.

We'll be using soft carve lino and fast drying ink pads so you can experiment with the different layers of colour without waiting for each layer of ink to dry. You will have one 4" x 6" block of lino to and several printmaking papers to work with.

At the end of the class you will have a basic understanding of how to make your own  reduction linoprints and leave with your carved block and prints.

No previous experience necessary and you do not need to be confident with drawing. I will bring some examples you are welcome to use or you can bring your own images/sketches/photographs.
